Enrichment
At Harris Academy Beckenham students can enrich their week with activities from an array of clubs on offer helping to develop lifelong interests and passions. We are proud to offer over 70 clubs, which take place before, during and after school.
We encourage all our students to challenge themselves and contribute to the wider community through our extensive enrichment programme. A culture of creativity, innovation and excellence is achieved, with our students making the most of every day at Harris Academy Beckenham.

Trips
We offer regular local and residential trips, to bring subjects to life and help students explore the world around them. From historical landmarks to galleries and theatres, universities, music festivals to ski trips and sports tours these trips are designed to inspire and develop our students.
Last year we ran 68 school trips during the year, from local, residential and international trips.
At HABE, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom, which is why our students take part in a range of exciting and enriching trips designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and personal growth. From cultural visits and outdoor adventures to educational workshops and residential experiences, every trip is carefully planned to complement and enhance our curriculum. These experiences give students the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world settings, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and build lasting memories with their peers. By combining academic enrichment with exploration and discovery, HABE trips help students grow into well-rounded, engaged, and motivated learners.
The Duke of Edinburgh Programme
The Duke of Edinburgh programme at Harris Academy Beckenham is one of the biggest of all state schools in London. Over 160 students complete the Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE awards across Year 9-13.
It is an incredible opportunity for students, with all student costs heavily subsidised by the Academy and pupil premium students only required to contribute a small proportion of the costs. We are proud to be offering something so special to the students.
Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award
At our school, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and make a positive contribution to their community through The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE).
The Bronze and Silver Awards provide students with exciting opportunities to build confidence, resilience, independence, and teamwork while creating unforgettable memories along the way.
What is the DofE?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a nationally recognised programme that inspires young people to push themselves beyond their comfort zones. Participants complete activities across four key sections:
- Volunteering – helping the local community or supporting a charitable cause
- Physical – improving in a sport, fitness activity, or physical challenge
- Skills – developing a new talent or building existing abilities
- Expedition – planning, training for, and completing a team expedition
Students taking part in the Silver Award complete an additional challenge, demonstrating further commitment and perseverance.
Bronze DofE
The Bronze Award is often students’ first experience of the DofE programme. It introduces them to adventure, teamwork, and personal development in a supportive environment.
Participants learn valuable life skills including:
- Leadership and communication
- Problem-solving and navigation
- Time management and organisation
- Confidence and independence
The Bronze expedition allows students to work together while exploring the outdoors and developing resilience through challenge.
Silver DofE
The Silver Award builds upon the experience gained at Bronze level and encourages students to take on greater responsibility and independence.
Silver participants face more demanding challenges, including a longer expedition and increased commitment to their chosen activities. Through this experience, students grow in confidence, determination, and leadership.
Why take part?
Completing a DofE Award is highly respected by colleges, universities, and employers. More importantly, it gives students:
- Opportunities to discover new interests
- Experiences outside the classroom
- Lifelong friendships and memories
- A sense of achievement and pride
The DofE journey is about personal growth, challenge, and adventure — helping every participant realise their full potential.
